HARRISBURG — State Sen. Sean Logan (D-Allegheny/Westmoreland) announced today that he will introduce a new bill requiring every prescription filled in Pennsylvania include information on where the drug is made.

The information would be included either directly on the bottle or in the literature that accompanies the medicine, Logan said. “Just about everything we purchase includes information on what country the product is made,” Logan said. “If we know where everyday items originate, shouldn’t we know where our prescription medication is being manufactured?

“For many individuals, their prescription is their lifeline. We all deserve to know where our medicine is coming from,” he said.

Logan is taking this action due to recent reports of a lack of quality control regarding the manufacturing of drugs in other countries.

The lawmaker said he expects to introduce the new bill when the Senate reconvenes in early January.
